Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor is a thrilling novella that intrigues readers from page one.

Binti Ekeopara Zuzu Dambu Kaipka of Namib (Binti) is a  dynamic young woman, not to be trifled with. After a devastating event, Binti finds herself trapped on a ship with an alien species light-years from home. Binti must conjure strength from the universe to protect herself. This story speaks to traditions unheard of, yet vaguely familiar as the plot takes place in a distant future.
Faced with the task of negotiating a peaceful truce between two species, Binti must harness her harmonizer abilities in order to protect the people of Oozma Uni. Her captor, Okwu must become her ally if they are both to get what they want.
This short novella packs a huge punch as the author dives right into the epic adventure of the unique Namib woman. Nnedi’s depiction of a courageous Earth dweller journeying to a distant planet for University battling for survival against an unknown threat is both vivid and mysterious.
Sadly, the story ended just when I was getting hooked but, no worries! Okkorafor did not leave her readers hanging. Binti is followed by two more volumes. Binti: Home (2015) and Binti: The Night Masquerade (2018) continues the heroine epic story. For those who enjoy science fiction and a unique storyline, Binti will not disappoint.
