The orc nation, driven on by their own dying lands, open a portal into the realm of Azeroth to conquer and colonize this peaceful realm as their new home. The outlook for Azeroth is bleak. But soon, heroes arise from both sides of the battle, heroes whose actions will dramatically alter the course of the impending war, and the fate of the peoples of Azeroth and orc alike.

Warcraft is essentially a prequel to the plot of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), World of Warcraft (WoW). I don't play WoW, and I don't usually like movies based on games, so my expectations weren't high. However, by the end of the film I was slack-jawed; I just wanted to watch more! I was thoroughly surprised by how much a truly enjoyed this movie. The story line was strong and engaging and the digital work was stunning. This movie left me intrigued and curious about the game itself; if the plot of the online game is as strong as the film, it's no wonder WoW has been a hit for so long!

If you enjoy movies based on games, Check our Assassin's Creed or Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. These movies and many more are available at your local Virginia Beach Public Library.
