The Great Cake Mystery by Alexander McCall Smith

The Great Cake Mystery by Alexander McCall Smith is a light tale of a schoolyard mystery.
Precious is a young girl from Botswana who’s tendency to ask questions leads her to becoming a detective. Her very first case involves missing cakes at her school of all places. While Precious is excited about investigating the mysterious disappearances, she is very cautious not to make any false accusations. Instead, she seeks evidence that will lead her to the thief; if there even is one.
The introduction to Precious Ramotswe, the Motswana  girl detective, soon to become heroine of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series by the same author is a smart read.
Precious uses reasoning, patience, and observations to get to the bottom of the great cake mystery.  She shares the fundamentals of being a good detective with readers as they journey with her through this process.
Author Alexander McCall Smith successfully writes his beloved character for a younger audience and in doing so, will inevitably attract new readers to his best selling series.
Every curious young reader should pick up The Great Cake Mystery for their first taste of a scintillating mystery with a lovable heroine.
