Cool Chemistry Concoctions: 50 Formulas that Fizz, Foam, Splatter & Ooze by Joe Rhatigan and Veronika Gunter

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) is a hot topic in education these days.  Recognizing that an understanding of scientific method and concepts is critical to children's (and the country's) future, parents and teachers alike are looking for ideas to get kids excited about science.

Cool Chemistry Concoctions is one of many resources that can help with that.  It contains 50 experiments, mostly using fairly common household items like soap, balloons, craft glue, etc to demonstrate chemical reactions,   Each experiment is short - taking up one page only, and includes ingredients, instructions, and an explanation of why the experiment works - the science behind it.

My grandson and I tried a few of the activities.  We made crystals, and did an experiment with density using various liquids to create layers, and made slime.  Everything worked as promised, and he had a great time.  I returned the book and he immediately wanted me to get it again.

The library has many resources for parents wanting to enrich and instruct their children in all subjects.  Check out some of these books of science experiments for more ideas.
