How to Share With a Bear by Eric Pinder

How to Share with a Bear follows a clever boy named Thomas who builds a cozy cave out of blankets and cushions. However; before he has time to enjoy it, he discovers that a bear has taken up residence!

Thomas manages to lure the bear out of the cave on multiple occasions only to find that he can’t get back to it fast enough!  He finally manages to get his cave to himself, but when the bear gets back and finds that he can’t fit in it also, he begins to cry.

First-time readers will delight in learning the bear’s true identity and those who already know it can find clues in the pictures. Graegin’s beautifully detailed illustrations in yellows, browns, and blues are as warm and cozy as Thomas’s cave.

This story is calm and touching and a great model of sibling cooperation without being preachy or heavy-handed. Thomas embraces the fact that little brothers love their siblings and in the end the two are reading peacefully in a cave built to fit both of them.

Tips for kids who want to build their own caves are included at the end of the story.
