Habibi by Craig Thompson

Habibi is an adult graphic novel by Craig Thompson that tells many stories in one, crossing deserts and palaces and modern cities, and bringing together two refugees under unfortunate (or you could see it as fortunate) circumstances. The drawings are beautiful, and so are the characters and the story. It covers themes of religion, poverty, slavery, and story-telling.

If you like Craig Thompson's story-telling style, you might also enjoy his autobiographical graphic novel, Blankets, which is a follow-up to his debut graphic novel, Goodbye Chunky Rice.
