Supertruck by Stephen Savage

The city is full of brave trucks.” There are the usual childhood favorites like fire trucks and less common ones like the bucket truck that fixes power lines. And then there is the garbage truck. But in a terrible blizzard, the garbage truck assumes its secret identity – SUPERTRUCK! Equipped with a plow, Supertruck soon rescues the others and digs out the whole city.

With our recent winter storms, Supertruck is timely indeed. And the transformation of the mild-mannered to the super-powered has universal appeal. The illustrations remind me of Donald Crews' early books like Truck and Freight Train. The text font is large and simple which makes the book accessible for a child with limited vision and helpful for a child learning to read. Supertruck was named a Geisel Honor Book as a distinguished beginning reader.
