The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray is not a straightforward, conventional biography, but rather a collection of everything you could ever want to know about Bill Murray.Through interviews with actors and friends of Murray and published records, the author, Robert Schnakenberg has put together a smorgasbord of Bill Murray facts. For example, I bet you didn't know that Bill Murray turned down an offer to provide the voice for Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story or that he was bitten several times by a groundhog in the filming of Groundhog Day! The book is laid out in an A-Z format, with photographs, quotes, trivia, timelines, and "Tales from Murrayland" interspersed throughout the book. The author tried everything in his power to get an interview with Bill Murray, but was unsuccessful, so the book is not an authorized biography.
This is a fun, visually pleasing book to read if you are into Bill Murray and want a complete picture of his life, movies, career choices, and philosophy. The best part of The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray for me was reading the behind-the-scenes stories of the movies Murray has been in. I'm not sure I agree that he is "the world's finest actor," but he is a fine actor who is very talented and has played a wide range of interesting characters.
Read about Bill Murray's favorite filmmaker to work for, Wes Anderson in The Wes Anderson Collection by Matt Zoller Seitz which can be checked out at the Virginia Beach Public Library. (Fun Fact: Bill Murray has appeared in seven Wes Anderson films!)
