Sunshine & Whiskey

Sunshine & Whiskey
by Frankie Ballard

I don't remember how I happened upon this artist.  I may have just been bored with my current playlist and was looking for something new.  But I do remember listening to it then telling several friends and coworkers "You have to listen to this guy.  He is really good."  Apparently others agree with me because he has had to date a total of 5 hit songs.  Two from his debut, self-titled album, Frankie Ballard, and 3 from this album.

Frankie has a clear, strong voice that comes through and makes the lyrics easy to follow.  Both the title track and the track Young and Crazy have catchy lyrics and an upbeat tune that makes them a great addition to your summer playlist.  Drinky Drink has some great banjo and harmonica playing in it.  After watching Frankie on stage this summer it is very obvious that besides singing well he is equally talented with a guitar.  While the tracks Sober Me Up and Tell Me You Get Lonely are repeats from his first album they are worth repeating.

You will find this CD in the library collection listed under the Country genre.  But other sources list Frankie under Pop/Rock and Country.  With the combination of his smoky voice and bluesy rock tunes there is a good crossover appeal.

Both of Frankie Ballard's albums are available on Hoopla.  You can check them out for seven days.  If you are using a mobile device you can download the music and access it without an internet connection during the checkout period.  Hoopla also has books, audiobooks, movie, comics, and TV shows you can checkout and download.
