The Dark by Lemony Snicket

Laszlo is afraid of the dark, but the dark isn't afraid of him. They live in the same house. For the most part, they stay out of each other's way, but one night, the dark comes to visit Laszlo in his room.

This beautifully illustrated picture book tells a tale that will empower kids who fear the dark, and show them that the dark actually has their best interests at heart. Lemony Snicket points out that, for example, a creaky roof might sound scary, but without it, we would get drenched in rain, so it's actually a good thing to have around. The same applies to the dark.

If you and your kids like The Dark, you might also enjoy some of Lemony Snicket's other books, such as The Composer is Dead, which introduces young readers to the instruments of an orchestra through the medium of a murder mystery, and The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming, a Christmas story featuring a traditional Hanukkah latke who learns about different winter holiday traditions.
