Fortunately, The Milk by Neil Gaiman

Does your dad tell you ridiculous, absurd, fantastical stories that just couldn't possibly be true... or could they? Of course he does; he's a dad. Fortunately, the Milk (written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Skottie Young) is an excellent choice just in time for Father's Day.

Two children wake up to find that they are, tragically, out of milk. Their father heroically heads to the store to pick some up, only to return with a tall tale of his time-and-space-travelling adventures between the store and home. (Fortunately, the milk was there every step of the way.)

If you enjoy this story, you'll probably also enjoy some of Neil Gaiman's picture books, such as The Wolves in the Walls, or another Father's Day favorite, The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish.
