Comically Cooking: Recipes So Easy You'll Actually Make Them by Tyler Capps

The author, Tyler Capps is a graphic artist who combined his passion for comics and food on a website which went viral. The user friendly recipes are compiled in a graphic novel-style cookbook where they are broken down into panels that show the ingredients, the steps, the final product, full shopping list, notes, and difficulty levels with photos and illustrations. Stick figures are interspersed throughout with funny comments, words of encouragement, suggestions, tips, and plays on words.

The recipes are cheap, not fancy or complicated and would be perfect for college students, beginning cooks, visual learners, or someone with their first apartment. Mac and Cheese, 2 a.m. Chili, and JalapeƱo Poppers are just some of the "recipes that you'll actually make."

My college age son gave this cookbook a thumbs up. He admitted that he would actually use it. Cooking Comically is seasoned with spicy language so I would not share it with younger children. If you enjoy this kind of cookbook I would recommend Relish: My Life in The Kitchen by Lucy Knisley, a graphic novel/foodie memoir which includes recipes for some of the author's favorite foods.
