Uncanny X-Men Volume 1: Revolution by Brian Michael Bendis

Uncanny X-Men Volume 1: Revolution by Brian Michael Bendis involves a group of mutants whose powers have been severely limited after a previous event. Bendis uses this as an impetus for developing the character of Cyclops, who is leading a school for mutants in an underground complex on the island of Utopia.

The world has turned on mutants and is arresting them as soon as they exhibit powers. Not content to let this happen, Cyclops and his team appear and save new mutants and recruit them for the new team. This leads to the inclusion of a hilarious new character called Goldballs, whose power manifests by randomly hurling golden balls at his enemies out of nowhere. This recruit adds levity to an otherwise introspective character development focused story arc.

Not to worry, even though Bendis spends time on character development, there is plenty of space for the fun X-Men sentinel battles that readers expect from the series. There is also a visit from the Avengers on one of their rescue missions.
