Grave Witch by Kalayna Price

When you think of Death, “potential love interest” is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. For Alex Craft, the main character in Grave Witch by Kalayna Price, that is exactly what he is. As a grave witch, Alex can communicate with the world of the dead. This ability allows her to see ghosts and Death, who just happens to be a charming and handsome man. This unorthodox romantic storyline sets the Alex Craft series apart from other Urban Fantasy series, but it is a small part of the absorbing magical world created by Price.

Aside from opening up her pool of potential mates, Alex’s ability also makes her a valuable resource to law enforcement in investigating homicides. In this first installment in the series, Alex finds strange markings that no one else can see on the bodies of a string of female murder victims. Over the course of her investigation, she learns that there is more to her family history than she had been led to believe.

Price has created a world where knowledge of the faerie world by humans is fairly recent, and the delicate balance between mortals, fae, and witches is handled deftly by Price. Those who have vampire and werewolf fatigue but still love the supernatural will enjoy a story using a different aspect of mythological lore. The Alex Craft series will appeal to readers who enjoy a richly detailed setting and quirky secondary characters.
