Luther is a brilliant, beautifully tragic, and overly impulsive police detective who often finds himself on the border between hero and villian. A BBC produced television series, this show will keep you on the edge of your seat through every episode as you delve into the depths of Luther's character, played phenomenally by Idris Elba.

Fact is, Luther is a genius, and we all know that geniuses sometimes find themselves on the border between sanity and insanity. When those geniuses find themselves in the high moral position of wanting to bring justice to those who deserve it, you'll find that lines often get even more blurred, and sometimes doing the wrong thing is what is right. The underlying game of cat and mouse between Luther and Alice, a gorgeous, highly intelligent mass murderer played by Ruth Wilson,  is what holds this storyline together. As each new case presents itself, Alice is always there, sometimes to torment Luther and sometimes to "help" him out of a sticky situation.

You'll find yourself wondering whether Luther is a force for good or evil, and I can't imagine that you'll really ever be able to answer the question. If you enjoy Luther, try out the series The Wire, also starring Idris Elba as the head of a drug dealing gang. It too will keep you on the edge.
