Kick-Ass directed by Matthew Vaughn

If you like over-the-top action, superheroes and geeky humor, then not only do we have much in common, but you're gonna love this one! This movie is the film adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.'s graphic novel, Kick-Ass.

The main character in the movie, Dave Lizewski, is a young comic-book geek who poses the question - “How come nobody’s ever tried to be a superhero?” Soon he orders a costume online, calls himself Kick-Ass, and bravely goes out on his own, vowing to stop crimes in his neighborhood. Along the way he joins up with a father-daughter crime-fighting duo, Big Daddy and Hit-Girl and the trio work together to take down a local criminal empire and super villan, Red Mist.

Here are the two things that Angella loved most about this movie:

1. Hit-Girl – I really think the title of this movie should have been Hit-Girl, but maybe that will be a sequel. She’s a knife-wielding 11-year old girl, who slices and dices like a ninja.

2. Red Mist's car – A tricked-out Ford Mustang with a 550-horsepower 4.6-liter V-8 engine, Lamborghini style scissor doors and nitrous oxide tanks that provide a smoke-filled red mist coming from the hood. I fell in love with this car and it is definitely on my list to Santa this year.

Kick-Ass is one of those movies that will surely have a cult following for decades to come.  You know, cult films like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Office Space, Napoleon Dynamite, Scarface, Donnie Darko, etc.  Movies that we watch over and over again and quote often. Ok, maybe that’s just my geeky thing.

Check the VBPL catalog for the DVD or the Graphic Novel.
