The Gallagher Girl Books by Ally Carter

To the outside observer, the Gallagher Academy looks like any other boarding school for rich girls. But if you can get inside (and you're going to need a pretty high security clearance), you'll see something quite different... a school for girl... SPIES!

In the first novel of the series, Cammie Morgan, the daughter of the Gallagher Academy headmistress, is starting 9th grade. She and her friends are taking new classes like Covert Operations, and in a training exercise for class, Cammie happens to meet a boy from the nearby town. As she uses her spy training to find out everything about him, Cammie finds herself falling for him...

Each novel in the series covers one year of high school, as Cammie makes new discoveries about her school and develops her spy skills in preparation for a future career in the CIA. Readers will enjoy the school environment (I was reminded at times of Hogwarts), the close friendships between Cammie and her classmates, and the light-hearted romance. This series is appropriate for middle school readers and up (while there is some romance, it's very tame!)

The first three books in the series, I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You, Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy, and Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover are available now, and the fourth book in the series -- Only the Good Spy Young will be released on June 15th. Author Ally Carter is also working on a new series, with the first title, Heist Society, available in February (so put a hold on it now!)

Readers who enjoy this series may also like Justine Larbalestier's How to Ditch Your Fairy, Meg Cabot's teen series, and The Squad series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

Today we also have a book review featured on the Virginian-Pilot's Bookmark book blog.
