Bobby vs. Girls (Accidentally) by Lisa Yee

Bobby Ellis-Chan is just starting fourth grade at Rancho Rosetta Elementary School, and he has a problem: GIRLS. Even his best friend, Holly, who used to enjoy rock-hunting with him, is now wearing dresses and painting her fingernails. When Bobby accidentally gets paint on Holly's dress, it starts an all-out war between the boys and girls in their class.

As in her earlier trilogy (Millicent Min, Girl Genius, Stanford Wong Flunks Big Time, and So Totally Emily Ebers), Lisa Yee describes the 'tween years with humor and understanding, and her cast of characters wonderfully diverse (Bobby himself is "1/2 Chinese, 1/8 English, 1/8 French, 1/8 German, and 1/8 Not Sure").

I would highly recommend Bobby vs. Girls (Accidentally) to 3rd through 5th graders (and boys especially). Fans of Lisa Yee's other novels will enjoy it as well (although it is written for a slightly younger audience than the others). You can find all of Lisa Yee's novels in the VBPL Catalog.

Readers who enjoy Bobby's story may also enjoy other school stories such as No Talking and Frindle by Andrew Clements.
